If you want to make money online and only read one article on this website, then this is the one you should read. There are no programs to join, no money to outlay and no affiliate links to click. Just the best advice I can possibly give you to get you on the road to earning some money online. I’m going to outline exactly what you need to do and how to go about it. You can thank me later! I encourage you to stop and take 10 minutes to read and understand the rest of this post. Remember I’m not selling anything here, so there is no surprise “buy now” button at the end.
Why people fail to make money online
This is how it usually goes – join a program or promote a product in the hope of making 5 figures per month, then give up within 2 months when that dream hasn’t come to fruition. Don’t be ashamed, it happens to all of us, myself included. As a matter of fact, it happened to me several times before I finally saw the light and changed the way I do things.Here is the biggest problem as I see it. Most people come into this with one intention, and that is to make money. Their goals are to make whatever amount per month (let’s use $10k as an example for the rest of this post). They dream of achieving those goals constantly. They spend a lot of time just thinking and contemplating how their life would change if they were earning that amount from internet marketing.
Those people have already failed.
As good as their intentions are, the goal of making money that they set for themselves is what is going to kill their motivation and cause disappointment and eventually lead them to give up on this dream.
This big goal of earning money is often the only goal people set for themselves. You can be absolutely consumed by that goal and it still won’t help you to achieve it.
It doesn’t matter how dedicated you are to that goal of financial freedom, and it doesn’t matter how many times you tell yourself to never give up. I hear it from people all the time – I’ll never quit because I know if I stick with it I’ll get there in the end.
Bullshit!
While that level of commitment certainly helps, the mindset is completely wrong. Sticking with something because you think it will eventually produce results is actually a negative mindset. In your mind, the results will come to you because you stuck with it. No results will ever come to you that way. If you want results, you need to actively go and get them. If you are sure that it is going to happen for you and you have convinced yourself of it, then you are not actually doing the things you need to do to get there, because you have a belief that you will get there anyway.
The idea of I WILL make this work and make thousands of dollars needs to be replaced by HOW DO I make this work and make thousands of dollars.
Read that line again.
Do you see the difference between “I will make this work” and “how do I make this work”?
“I will make this work” has no direction, no plan and nothing in place to actually make it work.
“How do I make this work” has the beginnings of a strategy and a plan and is focused less on the end result and more on the getting to that result.
If you understand that part and why it is a better way to think, it may just be the turning point in your online career. Now that alone is a good start, but we are not there yet.
What you need to do to succeed online
So let’s revisit that initial goal. I want to make $10k per month online. Now that you’ve read this far, you know you need to now think of how do I make $10k per month? There are many ways to make money online and I’m going to let you choose which one you think is right for you. Once you’ve chosen your selected pursuit, it’s time to get a pen and paper and do the following:At the top, write down what you want to earn ($10k).
On the next line, write how you are going to earn it. For example it might be through MLM (multi-level marketing). We’ll use that for this example anyway.
Next, write down what you need to do in that MLM to reach the $10k per month goal. For example it might be having a downline of 2000 people in your chosen MLM company (downline is not just the people you personally sponsor, but all of the ones that they sponsor and so on, so you are not personally recruiting 2000 people).
So far, we have written down on the page $10k, MLM, and having a downline of 2000. See how the plan is beginning to formulate? Although for this example having a downline of 2000 is the equivalent of earning $10k per month you are far more likely to earn that $10k if you focus on getting a downline of 2000, rather than focusing on earning $10k.
Next, I want you to look at that goal of having a downline of 2000. Go back to my earlier suggestion of adopting the mindset of “how do I make this work”. How are you going to get that dowline of 2000? It seems like such a big number, and is just a little bit daunting. So let’s bring it back to a far more achievable figure and say we want to personally sponsor just 5 people. 5 will be much easier than 2000 that’s for sure! I want you to write down on your list “sponsor 5 people”.
Now we are going to add a deadline to it.
Having a deadline will help to improve your focus and create a greater sense of urgency.
So we’ll say we want to sponsor those 5 people by the end of the month.
If I told you that you had to earn $5k online by the end of the month or your arms and legs would fall off, naturally you would go out with an absolute single minded dedication to achieving that goal, no matter what.
If I told you that you had to earn $5k online at some point, or one day your arms and legs would fall off, then you are not going to attack the task with the same level of focus and sense of urgency. That’s what having a deadline does. (*note – your arms and legs will NOT fall off!)
Now to sponsor those 5 people by the end of the month we have some work to do. They won’t magically fall in our lap, so we need to go out and get them. HOW DO I MAKE THIS WORK? Well you can make it work by sponsoring just 1 person by the end of this week. So underneath where you wrote sponsor 5 people, I want you to write sponsor 1 person.
Having a goal of sponsoring 1 person by the end of the week is looking much more attainable. But the goal itself will not get you there. You need to ask yourself now, what do I need to do to be able to sponsor this one person? The answer there may vary depending on what your preferred method is, but it could be to advertise on Facebook, in forums, talk to friends and family or whatever. Now when you do this, it will directly lead to achieving that goal of sponsoring 1 person. There are no in between goals now, this is your one primary goal – it’s just simply talk to people, advertise and do whatever it takes, and when you take those actions it will lead to sponsoring 1 person.
When you start doing these actions, you need to do so with an absolute dedication to the tasks. I want you to think about it every waking minute. I want you to be so focused on doing these tasks that nothing else matters. This is your main goal and it is far more important than the goal of making $10k per month.
Previously, taking that action and sponsoring 1 person left you far short of your goal of making $10k per month. Now, you’ve actually achieved your goal (sponsor 1 person). It feels good and you are becoming more enthusiastic!
Now you should be setting a new goal. It might be to sponsor 2 people by the end of next week. So again, break that down into the tasks you need to do to achieve that goal, then set about doing those tasks with an absolute dedication. You’ll also now find a greater level of belief in what you are doing, because you know that those actions you took led to achieving that goal. So your enthusiasm and commitment actually improves with each goal achieved.
If you are doing these tasks and not getting the result yet, you need to do more. Remember, this is your main focus and it is all you are thinking about. If your method of advertising was to make posts in forums and have a link to your MLM opportunity in your signature in the hope that people click on it and sign up, then you need to make more posts and join more forums if you haven’t sponsored that one person yet. There is no ‘do 1 task and the result will happen’, it’s an ongoing plan of ‘keep doing the tasks until the result happens’. It doesn’t matter how many hours you need to spend on it or how much talking to people you need to do, it is all about getting that 1 person and nothing else matters.
Once that is done and you’ve set your new goal, you need to attack that with the same level of focus as you did with the goal you just achieved. Nothing else matters other than sponsoring 2 people by the end of next week, and to do that I must continue to advertise everywhere I possibly can. If I haven’t achieved that goal yet I need to advertise more!
Before you know it, you will be earning that $10k per month. If you do what I’ve said here, you may actually pass that milestone without even noticing because that $10k per month is not your focus. Your focus is on doing the tasks you need to do to sponsor that 1 person by the end of the week.
So in going through this process, you have actually planned out how you are going to get to $10k per month (being the ultimate goal that you started with) and how each goal is mapped out for you, and allows you to get closer and closer to the big one. Doing the tasks leads to the goal being achieved (sponsor 1 person), and achieving that goal leads to the next one up on the list (having a downline of 2000) being achieved. That one then leads to the next one, which is to make $10k per month online.
The people who adopt this strategy and this mindset are generally amongst the 2% of people who actually achieve success online. Which one do you want to be, and more importantly – how are you going to do it?
